Privacy policy for the Thailand app

What happens to your data in the Thailand by cheaptravel.cz app for iPhone.

Who runs the app

The Thailand by cheaptravel.cz app (Thajsko by cheaptravel.cz in Czech) is run by Samec Digital s.r.o., company ID 29547539, Na Břehu 378, 387 11 Katovice, Czech Republic, registered in the Commercial Register kept by the Regional Court in České Budějovice, section C, file 36598. Contact: info@cheaptravel.cz.

In short

The app needs no account and contains no advertising or analytics tools. We don’t track you across apps or websites and we don’t use your device’s advertising identifier. What you enter or choose in the app stays on your phone. The app contacts our server only for the map, as described below.

What stays on your phone

Your chosen route and arrival day, the ticked items of the packing list (and the region and month you chose last) are stored on your phone only. We don’t send them anywhere and the app doesn’t sync them through iCloud. If you have an iCloud backup of your phone turned on, Apple makes it according to your settings (Apple’s privacy policy) and we have no access to it.

Location. The app asks for location permission only when you tap Around me. The permission is “while using the app” and an approximate location is enough. Your location is used only so that the phone can sort places by distance from you. We don’t send it anywhere, store it or write it to logs. You can turn the permission off at any time in iOS Settings.

Arrival card. The cards of the digital Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) that you save in the app (the QR code and its image, from a screenshot, photo or PDF) stay on your phone only, in the app’s folder, excluded from backups, and are not sent anywhere. The QR code is read from the image on the phone itself. You pick the photo or file yourself through the system picker; the app has no access to your whole photo library. You can delete a saved card in the app or by uninstalling the app.

The map and our map server

The map of Thailand is a single file (about 400 MB) that the app saves to your phone when you tap download, after which the map works without a signal. Until you download it, the app reads the parts of the map it needs piece by piece from the same server. The map server runs at Hostinger International Limited (data centre in Frankfurt am Main, Germany). All the other content of the app (places, articles, routes, photos and fonts) is inside the app and is not downloaded from the internet.

As with any internet connection, the server sees your IP address, but only while the connection lasts. It does not write requests for the map download to any log and does not store your IP address, the time or your device type with them. No installation number or other device identifier is sent.

Links to other apps and websites

The Open in Maps button opens Apple Maps and passes it the coordinates and name of the place you picked, not your location. Sources of articles and place details, links to the authors and licences of photos and the map copyright note open in your browser, emergency numbers in the Phone app. Their own policies apply there. The app contains no partner links, purchases or artificial intelligence features.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or erase your data, to restrict processing, to data portability under the conditions of Article 20 GDPR and to object to processing. Write to us at info@cheaptravel.cz. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in the country where you live or work or where the alleged infringement took place: in the Czech Republic the Office for Personal Data Protection (uoou.cz). As we keep no accounts or installation numbers and store no records of map downloads, there is nothing in that respect for us to disclose or delete. Uninstalling the app deletes all the data on your phone, including the downloaded map.
